Take the family out to the ballgame with tickets to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans opening weekend! The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are a favorite pastime of visitors and locals alike. They are kicking off the 2018 season with a back-to-back home series against the Frederick Keys and the Winston-Salem Dash. The Pelicans do an awesome job of providing between-inning entertainment and of offering promotions throughout the week to keep guests coming back time and time again.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are a minor league team affiliated with the Chicago Cubs with a state-of-the-art stadium located on 21st Avenue North, right across from Broadway at the Beach. Bring the whole family for night of baseball that will be enjoyed by everyone!

The Myrtle Beach Pelican’s host a variety of fun promotions during the week:

• Kids Eat Free Monday – all fans 12 and under will be given a voucher for a free hotdog, chips, and a drink

• Wiener Wednesdays feature $1 Hebrew National hot dogs all game long

• Thirsty Thursdays offer guests $1 drafts of Budweiser and Bud Light from 6-8pm

• Enjoy fireworks after the game on one of their 17 scheduled fireworks nights throughout the summer – just check their schedule for dates.

Art In The Park

In April, the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild (WACG, est. 1969) will sponsor Art in the Park, the Grand Strand’s premier outdoor art show, and sale. Since 1972, WACG, Art in the Park has hosted artists, working in a range of mediums, from all over the country. Art in the Park is an artist-run venue, held 6 weekends a year in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It is a popular destination for artists and customers alike.

Artist may submit only original work and high-quality prints or casts of their original work. Art in the Park accepts no resale items and no items that fall outside of the visual arts and crafts category. Visual art, as defined here includes painting, sculpture, woodworking, photography, jewelry, fabric, glass, metal, pottery, stone and mixed media works.

Artists interested in participating in Art in the Park can download an application or can contact JoAnne Utterback at 843-446-3830.

Throughout the years, the guild has offered free monthly programs to the public. Many well-known artists have presented at these meetings including Alex Powers, Dixie Dugan, Jim Arendt, Kate Lagaly, Leo Twiggs, and Bob Graham. Workshops on a variety of media have also been offered. The Guild has sponsored art shows for young people, has brought SC Art Commission Trucks to local schools, and offers scholarships to high school students.

The long-held goal of creating a center for art in Horry County finally came to fruition when the WACG was instrumental in acquiring a large beach house, Springmaid Villa, in 1984. The 150-ton house was moved to its present location in south Myrtle Beach which ultimately became the Burroughs and Chapin Art Museum. The guild continues its association with the museum through its monthly meeting and Juried Shows. The Myrtle Beach Speedway

U.S. Route 501, Myrtle Beach, SC

Between Myrtle Beach and Conway, next to the Tanger Outlet Mall 

The Myrtle Beach Speedway, originally named Rambi Raceway, was built in 1958 and is located on U.S. Route 501 between Conway and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The speedway is a semi-banked asphalt oval track that spans 0.538 miles (0.866 km).The NASCAR Cup series competed at the Speedway from 1958 through 1965. The

NASCAR Busch Series (now the Xfinity Series) raced at Myrtle Beach Speedway from 1988 to 2000.

Currently the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race on Saturday nights from late February through November. The track also runs various other classes of racing including Late Model Charger, Super Trucks and Mini Stocks. The speedway is home of the Myrtle Beach 400, IceBreaker 200, NASCAR Racing Experience, Monster Jam, and the NOPI Nationals.

Over the years, Myrtle Beach Speedway has been the training grounds for some of NASCAR’s biggest stars including Dale Earnhardt Jr. (former late model stock car competitor) and Jeff Gordon (former Busch Series track record holder). All four generations of Pettys and three generations of Earnhardts have taken a green flag around the asphalt oval.

The Spring Fling 165 Race is presented by Champion Autism Network. Race divisions include:

Dance The Night Away At The SOS Spring Safari

The Carolina Shag was designated the official state dance of South Carolina in 1984, but for more than a half-century, it has been synonymous with warm sand, cold beer, and beach music. A form of Southern swing, it’s said to have begun along the Grand Strand in the 1920s. The Carolina Shag is a partner dance that is mostly done to beach music. The basic step of the shag dance is done to a six-count step.

Every year in April, thousands of shaggers from up and down the east coast gather for Society of Stranders (SOS) Spring Safari in North Myrtle Beach. Beach music lovers and shaggers from all over meet in North Myrtle Beach for the first dancing event of the season. For 10 days from April 20-29, 2018, the biggest adult party on the East Coast crashes into North Myrtle Beach with a wide variety of activities including tea parties, shag dancing, live music, mingling with friends and a huge parade. Shag dance instructors will offer classes to the masses who are seeking to improve their skill or increase their repertoire of moves.

As the sun goes down, all the local lounges light up with activity and places like Duck’s, Fat Harold’s, Pirate’s Cove and the OD Lounge become the center of nightlife and fun. The last Saturday of the event features a parade where Association of Carolina Shag Club members display their parade floats for fun and a chance to win one of the coveted awards.

Sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Downtown Redevelopment Corporation and the City of Myrtle Beach, the highly popular Myrtle Beach Food Truck Festival is scheduled for April 20-22, 2018 and will operate Friday from 6-10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. As always, the event is free. All folks pay for is the food and merchandise they choose to purchase directly from the on-site vendors.  This year the festival returns to the Oceanfront Boardwalk District at the Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place between 8th and 9th Avenues North.

The only requirement to attend the festival is to show up hungry.

Wings Over Myrtle Beach Air Show

April 28 – 29, Opening ceremonies begin at 11 AM (both days)

The Blue Angels will return to Myrtle Beach in April for the Wings Over Myrtle Beach Air Show at the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

Airshow events will stretch over two days — April 28 and 29 — with performances by the Blue Angel Flight Demonstration Squadron, ASAF F-16 Viper Demo Team, and the GEICO Skytypers Air Show Team.

Infield-style camping opportunities will be available and include an opportunity to see air show performers practice before the big shows.

This year’s show will be the first air show in Myrtle Beach in more than a decade.

The Blue Angels will perform in their six signature gold-and-blue F-18 Hornets known for their hard-charging demonstration of precision formation flying while pushing their aircraft to their limit. The Blue Angels have traveled throughout the world performing before millions of spectators. The team’s flight demonstration is amazing and their involvement in local communities is inspiring.
