This Year’s Games

The Salt Games is Native Sons’ celebration of “beach life”. This year, the SunFun Festival parade will be an added bonus to the Games, working its way through the games at 10 am on Saturday, June 3. This festival hails back to 1951 when it first started as a way to celebrate the beginning of the tourist season in the Myrtle Beach area. Just like Salt Games, people would travel from around the US to join in on the fun. Photos stand as relics on the walls of the Starbucks at 2909 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577, echoing a time of fun in the sun experienced still to this day in Myrtle Beach.

Crossfit Updog Core Fitness Involvement in the Games

Judy and Bill Langfitt were introduced to CrossFit in 2011 and as a result of owning 14,000 sq. ft of space, featuring Stott Pilates Studio and Core Fitness Club, the couple was easily drawn to this new platform that provided amazing and real results. They immediately brought it into their gym, Core Fitness. Shortly thereafter, Steve Taylor, owner of Native Sons, approached them about bringing Crossfit Updog Core Fitness to the Salt Games. The rest, as they say, is history. Their first year, in 2012, they had 90 athletes involved in the Crossfit portion of the games. The next year, the number doubled. 2013 brought 280 athletes, and last year, they had 511 involved. This year, they anticipate approximately the same number due to the Crossfit Regionals just happening to fall on the very same weekend. Having true champion mindsets, this has not deterred Judy and Bill. As they considered their options, it seemed apparent to them that there was only one viable solution – build a Jumbotron at the games – and we mean JUMBO – so that all who are at the Regionals can cheer on the Salt Games and vice versa. What a brilliant solution! And might we add, all ocean-side, no less!

Please Note: if you would like to compete in the Crossfit portion of the Salt Games, registration closes Friday, May 26th at midnight. Register here: Salt Games.

Salt Games Gives!

Salt Games is supporting and proud to host the Surf Dreams Foundation which provides less fortunate children with surfing dreams and all that that entails, such as surfboards, wetsuits and more. Do you have gear that you no longer use and are wondering what to do with it? This is a great opportunity to put this gear to good use. To donate, drop it off at the Salt Games on June 3rd or 4th.
