This week, a gentleman eating breakfast in a Myrtle Beach Waffle House was overheard telling his server, “Yeah, I used to live in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. That’s just a few miles south of Lake Erie. Have you seen the weather in Erie? Five feet of snow!” The man continued, “People used to ask me if, living in Myrtle Beach, I ever missed the snow. I tell them I missed watching the first fifteen minutes of the first snowfall of the season through my front window. I don’t miss driving in it, shoveling it, dressing for it, or walking in it.”

Like the gentleman in the Waffle House, many folks believe that Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand is more than just a summer vacation spot. They have decided to become year-round residents. The Trembley Group Real Estate Sales Executives spend a large portion of their time by helping residents from our northern states and Canada find the perfect home and make the move to Myrtle Beach and the sunny south. After all, if someone enjoys all that Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand have to offer for a few weeks every summer, why not become permanent residents and enjoy all the area has to offer year-round?

January weather in Myrtle Beach isn’t exactly ideal beach weather but it is definitely mild compared to many other places, especially places like Erie Pennsylvania. The Grand Strand is just about the perfect place to live for those who want to escape harsh winter climates. The average air temperature in Myrtle Beach during January is about 56º, while the average water temperature is near 51º. While those lucky enough to live on the Grand Strand year-round won’t be spending time lounging by the ocean during in January they can at least trade their snow boots and snow shovels for a light jacket and walking shoes and enjoy a round of golf or strolls along the beach without worrying about frostbite.

Walking and Cycling the Beach

Just because the Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand weather in January isn’t hot doesn’t mean the beach can’t be enjoyable. It’s just a different scene – rather than being packed with coolers and sunbathers, the beach is dotted with people out for a stroll. Pets are permitted on the beach in January (as long as you clean up after them), and bicyclists are also allowed to cruise the beach in winter. Most walkers and cyclists are amazed at how relaxed and refreshed they feel after a long stroll or ride along the beach in the wintertime – and walkers have better luck finding sharks’ teeth and great shells!

Lots to Do in January

While the holiday celebrations die down after the first week of January, there are still plenty of fun things to do around Myrtle Beach during the month. Many people enjoy outdoor activities such as horseback riding, biking, hiking, visiting gardens, and fishing even more because of the mild weather. And, of course, there are always great events and shows, too! The holiday shows have come to an end and the best new shows on the Grand Strand begin in January.
