Spring is finally and officially here. Whether the first day of spring is determined astronomically or meteorologically, March officially marks the first day of spring vernal equinox. In Myrtle Beach and along the Grand Strand, the short-lived, yet slightly chilly, winter is officially over. Spring is the favorite season for many of the Trembley Group Real Estate professionals.

The Weather

Many folks think the Myrtle Beach spring is the best time to live on the Grand Strand. In March, as spring approaches, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina enjoys increasingly comfortable temperatures, longer days, and sunny skies. Average daily high temperatures approach 70℉, and the average lows rarely fall below 40℉ - just about perfect sleeping weather. And with relative humidity averaging below 70%, March is just about perfect for walking on the beach, hiking, running, strolling, and fishing or bicycling in the park.

Golf

While it’s possible to golf in Myrtle Beach and along the Grand Strand almost any time during the year, the most popular time for golf is spring golf season, which begins in March. Every March, golfers flock to the large selection of courses on the Grand Strand to take advantage of the mild weather. Since March is such a popular month for golf, many of the Grand Strand golf courses and golf-related businesses offer specials and go out of their way to cater to golfers’ needs.

“I can only think of a handful of times when it’s been too cold for me,” said Ed Piotrowski, the long-time weather expert at Myrtle Beach’s WPDE Channel 15 and a regular golfer. “Of course, I am not acclimated to the cold like northerners, so what I think is cold may not be to them. I always find the courses to be in really good shape as well. I love playing in the spring and winter because the crowds are sparse and you can get through rounds quickly.”

“December through March is one of our drier periods, so all-day rain events are pretty rare,” Piotrowski said. “While we can get ice and snow, it typically doesn’t last more than a day and doesn’t happen every year. Temperatures range from an average high of 56 [degrees] in December to an average high of 64 in March. The average lows range from 36 to 44. The threat of temperatures getting into the teens is very low. At the other end of the spectrum, it’s been 80 on occasion at Christmas and other days through the winter. We have one or two times a winter when temperatures at night fall into the teens.”

The Myrtle Beach Marathon, one of America’s “10 great winter marathons,” according to USA Today, will run again on March 7, 2020!  With a Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Team Relay, 5k, and Family Fun Run, there is something for people of every age, ability, and fitness level.

The pancake-flat looped course, featuring nine beautiful beachfront miles, is one of the flattest and fastest in the country. The average race day start temperature is 40°F, and the high temperature tops out at 62°F - ideal conditions for the optimal Marathon and Half Marathon performance. Whether the aim is to complete a first Half Marathon or qualify for the Boston Marathon, the Myrtle Beach Marathon is the place to start and achieve that goal.

The half marathon portion of the race takes runners on an out-and-back route that starts and finishes in the shadow of downtown Myrtle Beach’sTicketReturn.Com Field, the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs.

Runners have a fast and flat course for the half (as well as for the full and the 5K race). From the starting line at the intersection of Grissom Parkway and 21st Avenue North, the course takes runners along paved streets through this coastal city, starting off with stretches along Grissom Parkway and Joe White Avenue, followed by a roughly three-and-half-mile-long stretch along South Kings Highway.

Next, the course heads west toward the Market Common, the shopping and entertainment district, and the home of Keller Williams The Trembley Group Real Estate that lies just west of the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

The course for the half marathon closes at 11:00 AM, so runners will have 4 hours to complete the race. Following the race, the event organizers host a post-race party for all participants at the House of Blues.

Regardless of whether a runner is looking to qualify for a major race or is just planning a fun running weekend getaway with the family, the Myrtle Beach Marathon is the perfect place to start! With only 25 feet of elevation gain, runners run one of the East Coast’s top vacation town courses. Start near Broadway at the Beach, race along Ocean Blvd, and finish at Pelicans Ballpark for a post-race party!

Speaking of diversity, the Canadians have their special festival, and the Italians have theirs, so why shouldn’t the Irish have one, too? And what better day to celebrate Irish heritage than on St. Partick’s Day? There are several St. Patrick’s Day events scheduled for March 17 this year.

This one-day, rain or shine event brings approximately 40,000 people to North Myrtle Beach to celebrate being Irish (or liking the Irish and all things Irish) and to welcome the coming of spring. Following the parade is the St. Patrick's Day Festival with three stages of live music and a children's area with rides and amusements from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crafts, services, information, products, and treats will be on display from approximately 150 vendors.

Run to the Sun Car Show

For many at Keller Williams The Trembley Group Real Estate, the annual Run to the Sun Car Show is a favorite event. The show features classic, antique, and exotic cars at South Carolina’s largest car and truck show, sponsored by the 26th annual Run To The Sun, sponsored by the Pee Dee Street Rodders. This year, the show returns to the old Myrtle Square Mall site between 21st and 29th avenues, north in Myrtle Beach.

The Run to the Sun dates to 1985 when the Pee Dee Street Rodders held small shows in Florence, SC, the club’s home. Their first show had only 88 participants, but this year’s show is expected to attract well over 3,200 participants. The show features classics like 1932 Fords, 1957 Chevrolets and even some vintage Ferraris. Vehicles manufactured after 1989 are not permitted. There is no charge for spectators to view the vehicles, and there will be vendors serving food and selling classic auto accessories and memorabilia. There are also drawings for cash and door prizes.

The Run to the Sun car show hopes to raise $100,000 for The Children’s Miracle Network and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Last year’s show raised about $102,000, and the show raised more than a million dollars for these charities over the life of the event. After the cost of the show is covered, all remaining proceeds are donated.

The Run to the Sun Car Show is free to the public runs Thursday through Saturday. It's one of the largest car shows in the southeast and brings classic car enthusiasts from around the country together.
