The Market Common
Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
The Market Common is where fine living is at its best with shopping, dining, entertainment and even the beach all just steps away. It’s where folks want to live, vacation, or spend the day. The Market Common, Myrtle Beach has something for everyone.
The Market Common in Myrtle Beach is the centerpiece and was the catalyst for the redevelopment of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. With exceptional national retail options ranging from beach attire to high fashion and casual business lunches to fine dining, theaters, pubs, and parks, this master-planned redevelopment project is one of the developer’s most exciting endeavors. The Market Common, Myrtle Beach is a truly unique and exciting urban shopping and living experience.
One of the locally owned businesses in The Market Common is the Pee Dee Bicycle Shop. In addition to selling, repairing and maintaining bicycles, Pee Dee also rents bikes and their shop is a great place to start a family adventure and explore whether biking the Grand Strand is the right exercise before making the purchase. The shop rents kid-trailers suitable for one or two children as well as cruisers and road bikes.
Not everyone realizes that Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand is almost a perfect place to ride a bicycle. With the flat, Low Country terrain and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful natural scenery, the Myrtle Beach area is the ideal place to knock out a few miles on a bicycle. Bringing the family along only adds to the fun and enjoyment of exploring the Grand Strand on two wheels. And bicycling is an almost perfect joint-saving exercise.
Average September Weather Is Perfect
Of course, one of the main things that people love about Myrtle Beach is the fantastic weather. The average air temperature in Myrtle Beach during the month of September is 85º, which is warm enough to still enjoy a nice swim, but cool enough to enjoy most outdoor activities without sweating. Water temperature is about 80.
Smaller Crowds Beginning in September
And Crowds? What crowds? While there may be long lines at attractions and wait times at many restaurants during the peak summer season in Myrtle Beach, September offers a relief from the crowds at many Grand Strand favorites. Permeant residents visit their favorite stores without having to wait in line, easily book seats to shows, and walk right into their favorite restaurants. September sounds pretty nice, doesn’t it?
Fall Golfing in Myrtle Beach
And why swelter playing golf in the summer when September offers ideal cooler weather and better rates? When summer visitors leave the Grand Strand at the end of their vacation season, year around residents start flocking to Myrtle Beach courses to take advantage of the milder temperatures and fall golf course specials.
The Grand Strand Beaches
Who can talk about the things they best like about the Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand without mentioning the beach? Beach is part of the city’s name and Strand means beach in German. The area’s gorgeous sandy beaches draw millions of visitors each year, and, believe it or not, September is one of the best months to enjoy the beach. Along with average air temperatures in the mid-eighties, the average water temperature in September is still a near-bathwater 80º – still warm enough for a refreshing swim in the Atlantic.
Since the weather is still wonderful at this time of the year, September is an awesome month for outdoor events and festivals! Enjoy the fresh South Carolina air and have a blast at one of the following events this September…

September 27 – 30, 2018
The annual St. John’s Greek Festival is a celebration of Greek culture, cuisine, and family fun. The Greek Festival is one of the most beloved Myrtle Beach events of the fall.
Sure, there’s Greek culture, Greek music, and Greek dancing but it’s impossible to mention the festival without talking about the yummy Greek food. Guests get their fill of spanakopita, gyros, baklava, cookies, salads, pastries, breads and more as St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church hosts this tasty annual event. The event is fun for the whole family and offers inflatables, live performances and music, arts & crafts and vendor tables, and tours of the beautiful church. But for most, food is the main attraction. It’s hard to resist the hundreds of pastries but the traditional lamb or chicken gyros on fresh pita with tzatziki sauce, Greek spices, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions are perhaps the most commonly ordered meal.
The moussaka and pastichio offer a taste of the Greek life. Mousaka is a favorite eggplant casserole with layers of ground beef, cheese, potatoes in a cream sauce. Pastichio is an interesting classic dish with ground beef, cinnamon, nutmeg and a cream sauce inside of baked macaroni. Regardless of your favorite entrée, don’t miss the roasted Greek potatoes and Greek salad to accompany it!
Still hungry but not ready for dessert? Move on to the spanikopita or tiropita. Both made with cream cheese, egg and filo pastry. Spanikopita is made with fresh spinach so classify it as a vegetable if you’d like. The Dolmathes are stuffed grape leaves and are hand-rolled perfection.
Authentic Greek beer and imported wines wash down the best of any festival lunch and dinner are available. Ouzo shots are sold at the event if you really want a taste of Greek liquor. Ouzo is a Greek wine aged in green pine barrels and has a unique and distinctive taste.
