The Trembley Group is excited about what is happening in the area this month. Here are just a few of the events that we’re anticipating in Myrtle Beach and the along the Grand Strand in March.

Don’t miss even a minute of this month’s events! Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 12, at 2:00 a.m.  Remember to set clocks AHEAD one hour when you go to bed Saturday.  The Myrtle Beach Fire Department encourages everyone to change your smoke detector batteries when you change your clocks. The Trembley Group says protect your home and your family. Smoke detectors save lives!

Myrtle Beach will be the site of the Palmetto Regional FIRST® Robotics Competition, Thursday through Saturday, March 2-4.  More than 60 teams of high school students from South Carolina and around the country will build their own robots to compete in this fast-paced event.  The events begin Thursday, March 2, with robot inspections and practice rounds, followed by the tournament on Friday and Saturday. Admission is free! The public is invited and encouraged to watch students put their math, science, and engineering skills to the test.  All local high schools are expected to enter a team.  The name of this year’s challenge is STEAMWORKS. The Myrtle Beach Convention Center is located at 2109 North Oak Street and will host this year’s competition.

The 29th annual Run to the Sun Car Show, one of the largest in the Southeast, brings thousands of classic cars to Myrtle Beach for a weekend-long event. In addition to bringing classic-car enthusiasts from around the country together, the show raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Last year’s event raised $97,000. The March 16-18 Car and Truck Show features thousands of vintage vehicles hitting the streets of Myrtle Beach and parking at the vacant lot of the old Myrtle Beach Mall site. Stroll through the spacious lot and check out the rides that used to cruise down Ocean Boulevard in a different time. As the saying goes, old cars never die, they just retire to Myrtle Beach.

And, let the games begin!  The second annual Myrtle Beach Games & Heritage Festival is Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, at Grand Park Athletic Complex.  From kilts to contests and clans to cabers, You’ll find kilts and clans and caber tosses and stone throws at the Myrtle Beach Highland games.  This event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Myrtle Beach Regional Pipe Band and the Horry County Firefighter Relief Fund.  Highland Games are popular throughout the Carolinas. They are known for their family entertainment, Scottish musicians, amazing athletes, and champion bagpipe and drum bands from all over the Southeast.  A variety of authentic food, merchandise, souvenirs and beverages from Scotland and Great Britain will be available for purchase.  Opening ceremonies will feature a Mass Pipe Band Performance, a Parade of Tartans, the March of the Clans and Societies, as well as the national anthems of Scotland, Ireland, Canada and the United States.  This event is a “rain or shine” event.  For tickets, visit www.myrtlebeachhighlandgames.com.

And so long as we’re in the British Isles for the Highland Games, let’s not forget The 29th annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival and Parade will be held on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, Saturday, March 11, 2017. This one-day, rain or shine event brings approximately 30,000 to celebrate being Irish and welcome the coming of spring. A parade begins the day at 9:00 a.m., followed by two stages of live music and a children’s area with rides and amusements from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm

If you’re interested in a different kind of wildlife, don’t miss World Wetlands Day on March 2, 2017 at Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center/North Inlet-Winyah Bay Estuarine Research Reserve, at 22 Hobcaw Road Georgetown, SC 29440 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Get up close and personal with these important and beautiful freshwater habitats. Explore and learn about the wildlife that live in our southern wetlands, from birds of prey, alligators, and plants all the way down to the microscopic invertebrates in the water. And finally, let’s not forget our neighbors north of the border. The 56th Annual Canadian American Days is scheduled for March 11-19, 2017. That’s the time when the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce rolls out the red carpet and welcomes our neighbors from the north to America’s favorite playground – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Those of us who have visited Canada know that it is a wonderful place but everyone needs a break from the snow now and then. Everyone needs a place to relax, shop, and forget their troubles and there’s none better than Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand.
