The Keller Williams The Trembley Group Real Estate Professionals know there are lots of reasons to buy Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand real estate. The company’s Realtors know all the reasons homeowners love living here. Everyone knows about Myrtle Beach golf and entertainment opportunities, but almost everyone agrees that the best reason to live in Myrtle Beach is the area’s greatest attraction, the Atlantic Ocean and the area’s more than sixty miles of clean white sandy beaches.

The area has endless watersports and fishing opportunities. In addition to the ocean, the Grand Strand has countless backwater creeks and saltwater inlets that flow off the ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, and a number of freshwater rivers. Myrtle Beach and South Carolina puts its homeowners dead-center in the middle of a myriad of fishing, scuba, and watersport opportunities.

The days of Blackbeard the Pirate, Stede Bonnet the Gentleman Pirate, and Anne Bonny, the most famous South Carolina woman pirate cruising the Grand Strand, are long gone. But in their wake, they left behind some of the most beautiful beaches and boating opportunities in America.

Besides fishing for the catch of the day, there are lots of adventurous maritime activities to keep Myrtle Beach homeowners on the water from sun up to sundown. All the boating choices and the boating conveniences make exploring and playing on the Myrtle Beach water easy.

From the giant dunes of Bird Island on the North Carolina Border to Sandy Island’s Gullah-Geechee community to South Island, part of the Tom Yawkee Wildlife Center just South of Georgetown, there are all sorts places along the Grand Strand that can only be accessed by boat.  And boaters routinely discover dolphin pods, sea turtles, the occasional whale, and the great sunrises and sunsets of Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach natives take their boating and sailing very seriously.  The area offers world-class power boating and sailing from Little River all the way down the beautiful coastline to the historic port of Georgetown.

Whether a boater has an interest in a jet ski, a kayak, a canoe, a Jon boat, a powerboat, a pontoon boat, a sailboat or an ocean-going yacht, Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand has the perfect water for the next boating excursion. The Grand Strand offers boaters a wide variety of waters for boating from the Intracoastal Waterway, to tidal rivers to the local bays and inlets to the wide-open ocean.

THE FRANKLIN G. BURROUGHS-

SIMEON B. CHAPIN ART MUSEUM

3100 South Ocean Boulevard

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 29577

E-Mail: info@MyrtleBeachArtMuseum.org

January 2020 through April 1, 2020

Often overlooked amid all the neon lights and dazzling attractions of Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand is one of the Strand's best-kept secrets – the Burroughs and Chapin Art Museum.

Tucked away behind sprawling live oaks on the south end of Ocean Boulevard sits this charming 1920s-style beach cottage that was converted into an art museum in 1997. Filled with art galleries and touring exhibitions, the building alone is worth seeing as it represents much of the history, people and architecture of Myrtle Beach.

The three-story structure was once a beachfront cottage located near the old Ocean Forest Hotel. A local group of artists and historical preservationists joined forces to save the building from demolition. The museum sits across from the Springmaid Pier, currently under reconstruction after being destroyed by Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Florence. Its land was donated by namesakes and city founding fathers Franklin G. Burroughs and Simeon B. Chapin.

The museum hosts the works of touring exhibitions and educational programs, serves as a resource center and a reception hall, and is home to concert and lecture series. The first floor contains six galleries used for rotating exhibits, and four second-floor rooms house the Grace Martin Matlock Educational Galleries. The art studio gives adults and children a place to practice their craft, a small library features lots of local historical pieces, and the top-floor reception and tea room serve as a gathering spots with an ocean view.

Permanent collections include the Bishop Maps and Prints display, featuring 15 maps of the area made from the early 1600s to the mid-1800s; the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild’s collection of works; the Barbara Burgess and John Dinklespiel Collection of Southern Art; and several donated works that reflect the area’s history and culture. The permanent collection’s paintings, photographs, lithography, sculptures, and collages give guests an insight into Myrtle Beach’s and the Grand Strand’s culture.

Museum strives to engage the community and visitors through unique exhibitions and interactive, educational and creative programs for people of all ages. The Art Museum offers a variety of exhibitions, changing every three to four months, an extensive permanent collection of regional artwork and historical maps, and a fine arts resource library.

Year-round, tea and cookies are available on the tea porch which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The Museum Gift Shop features work by local artisans. Docent tours are available for groups of six or more upon request. The Art Museum also hosts several Free Family Days, celebrating events like Dia de los Muertos and Chinese New Year, annually, along with several annual fundraisers, lectures, events and much more!

The Burroughs and Chapin Arts Museum of Myrtle Beach is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free but donations are requested. Some exhibits, classes and special events require a small fee.

Collection Connections – A Visual Exploration of Southern Heritage

Collection Connections – A Visual Exploration of Southern Heritage is an exhibition of approximately 40 works from the Art Museum’s rich permanent collections, including antique maps and historical prints, works on paper by Southern artists, including William H. Clarke, Cassandra Gillens and Jonathan Green, fabric quilts and photographs. Using Southern-history-themed works of art from the museum’s collections, the exhibition uses the visual arts to instruct and explore the history and culture of South Carolina and our entire region and is designed for both school students and adults alike.

January’s The Market Common Military History Tour will be Friday, January 10th, from 2 - 4 PM. The Market Common is Myrtle Beach's premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination, and the home to Myrtle Beach’s and the Grand Strand’s premier real estate company, Keller Williams The Trembley Group. Tour-takers will board a trolley for a one-hour narrated tour around the Market Common District learning about the history of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, and the Myrtle Beach Army Air Field. During WWII, the base also housed a German POW camp. The tour includes stops at Warbird Park, the General Robert H. Tickets for the trolley tour and reception are $30. Tour-takers will meet in front of the Grand 14 Cinema, at Deville and Reed Streets, where they will board the trolley and depart for the one-hour tour with three stops at 2 PM. Afterward, the trolley will arrive at Tupelo Honey at about 3 PM for the one-hour catered reception and historical presentation.
