Today, with assistance from my little helper Isla June, I’ll cover the important basics of downsizing your home.

What is downsizing?

In short, downsizing is what occurs when you sell your current home in order to move into a smaller home. As life goes on, we all reach a point where, after the kids move out and we begin to collect less stuff, we realize that we need less space. When the maintenance of an overlarge house becomes burdensome and costly, it’s time to downsize.

“Downsizing your home when life signals the time is right means you’ll be a lot happier and a lot more capable of maintaining the property.”

Whenever I discuss downsizing with my clients, I try to figure out where they’re at in life, what needs they have, and what kinds of issues they’re having with home maintenance. This way, I can help determine what course of action will most benefit them in the long-term.

Downsizing your home when life signals the time is right means you’ll be a lot happier and a lot more capable of maintaining the property. If you’re currently having trouble keeping up with the lawn, then of course we’d want to look for a home that requires little or no yard upkeep, like a condo. It might seem hard to give up those big bathrooms and closets when you move to a smaller home, but the day will come where you’ll realize that you just don’t need all the stuff you have.

I recommend to those who are in the phase of life where downsizing is a good option to find a good agent who has a move specialist on their team. They should be able to help seniors prepare their houses for sale and assist with the transition.

If you’re in need of such an agent, feel free to reach out to me. I’d be glad to help you however I can.
